Normal Church Life |
| David Grant |
Acts 5:12-42 I wonder what you think of when you think of normal church life? How do you measure what is normal? Ultimately what anyone has experienced on a day to day, week to week basis becomes normal to them. The same thing happens in church life. So the ways of doing church, the specific nuances and emphasis of doctrine and theology get fixed over time. It is often easier to dismiss completely what is outside our experience than to humbly evaluate what we see in the light of scripture. Let us look at this morning’s passage and see whether what was normal for the early church matches our version of normality.

Holiness in the Church |
| Mike Cooke |
Acts 4:32-5:11 In this passage we see how God is serious about his holiness and honour. We are faced with the uncomfortable reality that the truth about God is that he perfectly combines love and justice, mercy and judgement. |

Be Bold |
| David Grant |
Acts 4:1-31 This morning we are looking at our need for boldness. When you became a Christian, whether you realised it or not, you signed up as a serviceman and joined a battleship that is armed to the teeth and engaged in mortal combat with the enemy. You can expect difficulties and privations, you are under orders and your life is not your own. There is incoming fire and there will be times when you are under immense pressure to give up. No wonder we need the Holy Spirit's power to be bold! |

Authority to Heal |
| David Grant |
Acts 3:1-26 Peter and John heal the lame man at the Beautiful Gate. The religious leaders ask "How did you do that?" In answering this question we learn that we too have been given Power, Authority, and Compassion to Expect Healing. |

Hopefully Devoted |
| David Grant |
Acts 2:40-47 We are all devoted to something the question is what are you devoted to? From time to time we hear stories in the media about people who are, to our mind anyway, excessively devoted to a person or activity. In this brief passage we are considering this morning we will discover what won the devotion of the Christians in Jerusalem; what they expended their time and resources on.

God's Mission |
| Simon Jones |
Acts 2:14-41 God is on a mission. This mission is global. This mission is generational until the day of the Lord comes. This mission is going to succeed. God is on a mission are we going to get on board? |

Fire Came |
| David Grant |
Acts 2:1-13 This is the third sermon in our series – Church ALIVE. Two weeks ago we looked at the promise that Jesus gave that his Holy Spirit would come upon his disciples. Today’s passage records the fulfilment of that promise in what many have called the birthday of the church. |

Matthais chosen to replace Judas |
| David Grant |
Acts 1:12-26 How do you make decisions? There are many Christians who would make decisions based upon things like promise boxes, other ‘random events’, our own desires and so on. What are biblical principles to help us make Godly decisions?

Holy Spirit is Promised |
| David Grant |
Acts 1:1-11 The early church saw evangelistic effectiveness unlike anything I have experienced The church was ALIVE in a way that challenges and provokes us.
Do you believe that church can be like that today? I have to believe it can because the promises in the bible have not been superseded or retracted. |

I Am the Resurection and the Life |
| David Grant |
Today we reach the final climactic I AM statement of Jesus – I am the Resurrection and the Life. This final statement takes Jesus message to a further level. In declaring I AM the resurrection and the life, Jesus is not just giving us an insight into his nature and being, he is declaring that death is not the end, that there is hope that we will reign with him for eternity with him in the new earth. |

I Am the Truth |
| Simon Jones |
Jesus said ‘I am the way, the truth & the life’ (John 14:6)Today we are looking at what Jesus meant by ‘I am the truth. The Holy Spirit as well as being called ‘the Spirit of God’ & ‘the Spirit of Christ’, ‘Counsellor’ & ‘Helper’ is referred to as ‘the Spirit of truth’ (3 times in John ch 14-16). He provides proof & evidence to us that Jesus is ‘the way, the truth & the life’ |

I Am the Way |
| Richard Leech |
On Sunday we read in John 14:6, Jesus saying that He is the Way to the Father (salvation) and that no other way exists. To many in society today, this view is considered arrogant and in contradiction to a general view of God's love for all mankind. How, as evangelical Christians, do we stand by this position when questioned by people of other faiths or no faith at all? |

I Am the Good Shepherd |
| David Grant |
In response to the harsh treatment of the man born blind by the Pharisees Jesus makes two I AM statements. As the Door he demonstrates that access to Eternal Life is exclusively through Him. As the Good Shepherd he knows and calls each of us by name, and he lays down his life for us. |

I Am the Light of the World |
| David Grant |
Unlike the previous two ‘I AM’ statements the one we are considering this week appears to stand alone in the passage without further explanation. To understand what Jesus was saying we need to look more widely in John and we find that in both John 1 and John 3 we have much more detail about Jesus – the Light of the World. Armed with this information we can better understand Jesus discourse with the Pharisees. |

I Am the Vine |
| Mike Cooke |
The word "fruit" is used throughout this passage. It is used here to refer to the outcome of actions - just as we would use the word "fruitful" to refer to something that was successful or "fruitless" to describe a frustrating or unsuccessful venture. There is one important difference though: the difference between good fruit and bad fruit is more one of motive than outcome. Good fruit is that which is done in submission to Christ to the glory of God the Father. Bad fruit is everything else. |

Giving and Worship |
| John Groves |
From the earliest days in the Old Testament through into the New Testament the heartfelt response of God’s people has always been a willingness to give generously back to God. A good example of this is when king David and the people gave in readiness for building the temple. They did so in an attitude of thankfulness and joy. In this message John Groves encourages us to give according to our faith, ability and the measure of blessing which God has given us. |

God Is My Hope |
| Simon Jones |
Psalm 33 - ‘God is my Hope’ We can place our hopes and dreams for the future in many things. The Psalmist describes God looking down on us as we put our hope in things which ultimately are no guarantee for the future. The writer concludes that only God can be relied upon and ends the psalm with the words ‘we hope in you’! |

The Cave and the Stage |
| Andy Le Roux |
David’s life can be thought of as being in two parts – The Cave and the Stage. During the first half, when he was a fugitive on the run from King Saul living in the Cave of Adullum, he was learning to rule and lead himself. Like David we too may find ourselves living in the cave – how can we learn to rule despite difficult circumstances? On becoming King David moved centre Stage and led his people wisely drawing on his earlier life experience. God’s plan is the church – he wants it centre stage to bring glory to him.

God Is My Hiding Place |
| David Grant |
The natural response we make to sin is to cover it up and to hide, hoping that in doing so we shall escape the consequences. Little children do this in naive ways that are quickly found out, but as we get older we become more skilled and subtle in our ability to disguise sin. However there is one person before whom we cannot hide our sin. We may be able to pull the wool over the eyes of our family and friends but God sees all and knows all. We cannot hide our sin from him! This Psalm however is about a better way, a way that leads to the forgiveness of sin. In Christ we no longer need to hide our sins because they can be completely washed away.

God Is My Salvation |
| David Grant |
In this Psalm King David focuses our minds on the all embracing sovereignty of God. The earth is the Lord’s and EVERYTHING in it. From this truth flows the wonder of our salvation and the victorious reign of Jesus – the King of Glory.

God Is My Comfort (Psalm 23) |
| David Grant |
In this well known Psalm we see how David placed his trust in God during the time when his son Absalom was in open rebellion and attempting to overthrow David and become King. David’s confidence in God offers us hope when we are going through our own times of difficulties. |

God is my inheritance Psalm 16 |
| David Grant |
God has created us with a desire to find significance and security. The second need – security – is the goal that many people in 21st Century Britain seek above all others. This manifests itself in all kinds of ways: education, employment, homes, family, health and fitness, insurance, pension. Someone has quipped that having money won’t make you happy but at least you can be miserable in comfort. The truth is that none of these things will ever provide real security – in fact they often lead to more stress and worry. In this Psalm we get an insight into how God’s people can experience true security. |

God is my Creator - Psalm 8 |
| David Grant |
This week we are looking at a ‘take your breath away’ Psalm. A psalm which invites us to consider the majesty of creator God. A psalm which reminds us of the pinnacle of God’s creation. Yet a psalm which begins and ends with the majesty of God. |

God is my delight - Psalm 1 |
| Simon Jones |
The fruitful tree is a very happy picture compared to the dead bits of chaff that get blown away in the wind and amount to nothing. It also speaks of the purposeful planting and provision of water that suggest the gracious hand of God and work of his Holy Spirit. |

Christ is coming again: A promise for us |
| David Grant |
Luke 24:50-53; Acts 1:6-11 Just as the birth of Jesus was not the end of the story, neither was his resurrection. In the four Sundays running up to Christmas our sermons had the heading Christ is coming. Yesterday we had Christ has come. Today’s message is the Christ is coming again. Let us look briefly at two passages written by Luke. |

Christ is coming 2: A promise to Isaiah (Isaiah 9:1-7) |
| David Grant |
Israel and Judah they were threatened by their powerful neighbours. Isaiah prophesied that a light would come to dispel the darkness these threats presented; a prophecy that culminated in Christ's arrival several hundred years later. This promise of light is just as relevant to the darkness that we see in our nation now . |

Christ is coming 1: A promise to Adam Genesis 3:1-15 |
| Simon Jones |
Genesis 3 is the first promise in scripture of the victory of Jesus over the devil & death. Psalm 22 describes Jesus suffering & death on the cross about 1000 years before it happened – the psalm ends with a triumphant statement ‘he has done it’! As Jesus dies his words from the cross ‘it is finished’ have the same sense of victory. |
